--Contract Talks end From KFFL.com According to ESPN.com, former NFL QB Archie Manning does not want his son, Ole Miss QB Eli Manning, to be drafted by the San Diego Chargers. The Chargers, who have the first pick overall in the 2004 NFL Draft, learned of the development through Eli Manning's agent, Tom Condon, and general manager A.J. Smith confirmed the news on Wednesday, Apr. 21. ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports that Smith understands the younger Manning's desire to play in New York, but will do what he feels is best for the team. --My take is well.. oh well. Brees will have to do and lets get him some help via Roy Williams or Gallery. --Contract talks begin From http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports/chargers/20040420-9999-1s20chargers.html -My Take on it- This is just seeing what it will cost them for the #1 pick. I looks like were not going to trade down.
--Chargers | Redskins interested in #1 pick? From KFFL.com Chargers | Redskins Interested in #1 Pick?
- from www.KFFL.com San Diego Chargers GM A.J. Smith claimed on Friday, Apr. 16 that the Washington Redskins have inquired about the top pick in the NFL Draft. According to Bernie Wilson of the Associated Press, Smith received a call on Wednesday, Apr. 14 from Redskins owner Dan Snyder. According to recent reports, the Redskins are interested in trading the fifth pick and OT Chris Samuels for the right to move up and select Iowa OT Robert Gallery. "That's not the context in which Snyder called," Redskins spokesman Karl Swanson said. "Clearly San Diego is trying to use the Redskins as they've used the New York Giants, to generate interest in a trade. Everyone throws us into the mix because we're so active, but we're not interested in trading up to #1."
My Take on it -Key and strange part is... "but we're not interested in trading up to #1." That is very weird. It seems this is just another pathetic attempt to get trade interest. We are starting to talk to agents with the draft coming up.... --Chances of Chargers dealing No. 1 slipping http://www.signonsandiego.com/sports/chargers/20040413-9999-1s13chargers.html My Take on it - This can be good or bad, good for Eli, bad for Brees. quote of interest "The Chargers' two biggest needs are offensive tackle and quarterback, in that order. If Gallery goes second overall as expected, trading down could cost the Chargers not only the top-rated offensive linemen, but also top-rated quarterback Eli Manning of Mississippi, who is projected to go first overall. It's a double-whammy the struggling franchise would have a tough time overcoming. " Gallery or Manning. Both would help.
-- Giants want to move to number #1 overall? http://chargers.com/news/headline_detail.cfm?news_key=1663 This looks bad but, the Giants are known for always giving in. Also found this on www.KFFL.com Giants | GM Confirms Contact With
Chargers About No. 1 Pick - from www.KFFL.com
My Take on it-So they contacted other teams, this is good. Read this for more pro-Eli draft... http://sports.espn.go.com/nfldraft/draft04/columns/story?columnist=clayton_john&id=1772513 There is nothing more that I can say
besides, if this does happen we will get a lot draft picks and or players. Lets
hope we keep the pick and get Eli Manning. -- No new signings Pitts WR Larry Fitzgerald... -is come to visit us next but the same thing with Taylor its just back up incase someone decides to pay our high price. --Article from SignonSandigo.com My Take on it-This is really wishful thinking getting Mike Williams and Eli Manning but the first step, the court ruling in favor of the NFL, is very close to becoming a reality. Lets keep our fingers crossed but if I may quote the great A.J Smith.. "I don't know," General Manager A.J. Smith said yesterday. "I weigh all that as it goes . . . I don't even pay attention to this stuff (about Williams landing in the supplemental draft). When it's solved, it's solved. When it's a reality, it's a reality. It's so far removed from my mind because it's up in the air." wow, what a down to earth guy. -- Taylor Visits with us http://chargers.com/news/headline_detail.cfm?news_key=1660 -Don't worry folks, this is just so if we trade down we have option. Fitzgerald is next. I don't think we'll move down the only 2 teams with an interest to move up to were we are are the Cardinals and the Giants. Both won't pay our high price for only moving down 2-3 spots.
